Purpose

The Morgan County Circuit Court establised the Lake DeTurk Conservancy District (LDCD) for the purposes of:

1) developing forest, wildlife areas, parks, and recreational facilities if feasible in connection with beneficial water management and

2) operation, maintenance, and improvements of works of improvement.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) does not consider the Lake DeTurk dam to be a flood control dam.

The Morgan County Circuit Court provides oversight of LDCD. IDNR serves as an advisor to the Court by providing evaluation of scientific and technical data upon which the Court adjudicates and the LDCD Board of Directors manages. IDNR has no regulatory authority over LDCD under the Conservancy District Act (IC 14-33).
